What's on Your Mind?

Lookout wants to hear your biggest concerns regarding the state of the state and what you'd like this blog to be focusing on. Is it the budget and state finances, the upcoming election, the rise of the Tea Party and other independents, alternative energy, Twin River's future, the power of special interests, the one-party lever?

As usual, there's no lack of topics. Let me know what's on your mind, and what conversations via this blog site you'd like to see happening in the weeks and months ahead.

  1. John - Keep doin what you've been doin all along. Your blog is spot on. Where have you been in the last week? Glad to see your back.

  2. There is nothing more important to the present and future of RI than the budget and state finances. There doesn't seem to be anyone on Smith Hill willing to make the hard decisions. If there is one issue you should devote your time and efforts to it is the budget. Keep up the good work.

  3. Rhode Island's budget for this current year was $7.76 Billion dollars as reported last June in the ProJo. RI has about 1 million people and covers about 1200 square miles land.

New Hampshire's budget was about $5.5 Billion dollars (6-19-09, Manchester Union Leader). NH has about 1.3 million people on 9,200 square miles.

HOW CAN New Hampshire cover more people and a bigger state for $2 Billion Dollars LESS than RI?

And it is NOT just NH. Maine has about 1.3 million people and is HUGE and their budget was about $5.8 Billion Dollars (Bangor Daily News, 5-28-09). Even New Jersey ran with a 28.6 Billion Dollar Budget (Star Ledger, 6-19-09) for a state seven times bigger than RI with a population of over 8 million people ...

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? Where is all this $$$ going?
