Who's Going to "Green" the New Blue Cross Building?

The new $125 million Blue Cross & Blue Shield Building at Waterplace Park is a "Green" building alright - funded in part by a $25 million tax break. Do you think it's an honest statement by Blue Cross RI that the building won't cost its subscribers anything? Let's not forget that BCBSRI is asking for a 17 percent hike in premiums for next year. Most rate hikes don't go to covering healthcare services but rather for administrative overhead. $125 million is a lot of overhead.

  1. I think your question, "Will the subscribers end up paying for the new Blue Cross building?" is basically rhetorical. They can say what they want, but there is no way they will swallow the cost of that project. The 17% premium hike can cover a whole lot of building.
